AHECSW Seeks ReConnect Fellows for Summer 2021

Have you considered taking a gap-year to increase your experience in the medical field while you apply to medical or physician assistant school? Do you know someone who is aspiring to apply to medical school that might be interested in gaining clinical experience before they apply? The ReConnect Gap-Year Fellowship is currently accepting applications for the next round of ReConnect Fellows to begin in Summer 2021.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Pre-Med College graduates facing a gap-year while applying to medical school or physician assistant school

  • Individuals interested in working with an underserved population at a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center

  • Individuals hoping to gain clinical experience and insight into primary care

Benefits of Being a Reconnect Fellow

  • Earn full-time wages and benefits as a medical scribe/medical assistant while applying to medical school or other advanced medical programs

  • Gain valuable work experience in a clinic setting; confirm your interested in the medical field, work directly with an underserved population in a rural FQHC

  • Experience behind-closed door interactions observing patient and provider

  • Participate in ReConnect Professional learning events and interact with current practitioners

  • Receive feedback and support on medical school application cycle, personal narrative drafting, and medical school interview preparation

  • Receive letters of recommendation from from partnering physicians, practitioners, and program staff

  • Engage with a cohort of peers with similar career goals in the same season of life

How to Apply

  • Required application materials include a cover letter, a current resume or curriculum vitae, and two letters of recommendation

  • Letters of recommendation may be submitted by applicants, or directly from references who are writing them
