The Oregon Rural Scholars Program is intended for students who are serious about pursuing a career in a primary care rural practice (Family Medicine, Pediatrics or General Internal Medicine), General Surgery or Psychiatry. Students complete their Family Medicine, Rural and Community Health clerkships and one elective in a single community in a rural Oregon community in a cointinous14-week rotation.
The 2010-2011 placements include Madras, John Day, Burns, Gold Beach, Baker City, Florence and Heppner.This program is coordinated through the Oregon AHEC Program Office at OHSU, Lisa Dodson, MD, Director

The program was developed by Lisa Dodson, M.D. through a cooperative effort of the Oregon Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) and the Department of Family Medicine at OHSU and was recently funded by a HRSA Pre Doctural Training Grant. The program pilot will begin with the first rotation, starting July 9-10, 2009.
