Florence

Jade Koide

Jade Koideis an Oregon Health & Science University third year medical student on rotation at Health Associates of Peace Harbor with Dr. Khurram Naqvi.

Jade currently lives in Portland. She has served previous clerkships in pediatrics, surgery, psychiatry and family medicine.

When asked what she would like to accomplish on this rural rotation, Jade stated, "increased familiarity with diagnosing and managing the most common diseases seen in a family medicine clinic; increased experience doing physical exams and performing clinical procedures; and I would love to visit the other specialists in the area (OB/GYN, Orthopedics) and see how they all interact with the community family practice physician".

Outside of medicine, Jade enjoys being outside – riding, fixing and racing her bike, gardening, sewing, snowboarding, hanging out with her friends and trying new restaurants in Portland.

Medical students are sponsored by Area Health Education Center (AHEC) of Southwest Oregon. AHEC provides a stipend for gas and housing for the students while they are serving their 5-week rotation.

Leah Green

Leah Greenis an Oregon Health & Science University Rural Scholar student on rotation at Curry General Hospital with Dr. Luther Ward.

Leah currently lives in Portland.  She has served previous clerkships in psychiatry, surgery, medicine, OB/GYN, pediatrics and hematology/oncology.

When asked what she wanted to get out of this rural rotation, Leah stated, "hands-on practical skills, like suturing, IV placement, assisting in surgery, etc.; a sense of whether or not rural practice would be suitable for my life in the future; and experience in seeing the full spectrum of primary care practice in a lower-resource environment".

Outside of medicine, Leah enjoys live music, theater, and performance, as well as the New York Times Sunday Crossword puzzle and dime-store murder mystery novels.

Rural Scholar students are sponsored by Area Health Education Center (AHEC) of Southwest Oregon.  AHEC provides a stipend for gas and housing for the students is provided by Curry General Hospital while they are serving their 14-week rotation. 

Reedsport

Tyson Olds

Tyson Oldsis an Oregon Health & Science University medical student on rotation at Dunes Family Health Care in Reedsport.

Tyson currently lives in Portland.  He has served previous clerkships in pediatrics, psychiatry, family medicine and internal medicine.

When asked what he would like to accomplish on this rural rotation, Tyson stated, "experience with the underserved; more hands-on procedural skills; and improved clinical knowledge".

Outside of medicine, Tyson enjoys running, traveling, hiking, motorcycling, snowshoeing, fishing, snowboarding, dirt biking, and playing music (guitar, piano, harmonica).
