What is Jr. MedStars Health Careers Honors Experience?
Jr. MedStars is an exploratory experience at Pacific University designed to help early high school students learn more about their options in pursuing a health care career. Jr. MedStars is sponsored by a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).
Who Should Attend Jr. MedStars?
- Students who have completed the 8th grade or their freshman or sophmore year of high school are eligible.
- Students from rural and underserved communities who have demonstrated their interest in a health career by participating in other health careers programs or activities
- Student acceptance is based on academic performance and strength of application (family need, rural location, letters of recommendation and healthcare related experiences).
What Will I Do at Jr. MedStars?
- You will gain an understanding of the work world of a healthcare provider by selecting three professions to investigate.
- You will observe the variety of roles within a healthcare team and identify their importance within the patient care setting.
- You will participate in hands-on simulation activities to facilitate your learning experiences.
- You will meet other students from across Oregon who share your interests.
- You will experience dorm life at Pacific University.
