In-A-Box Series

Science, Health and Career Curricula for Oregon's Rural Teachers

Boxes are available in six topics for teachers to choose from:

  • Bones and Muscles In-A-Box                                                                               In-A-Box logo
  • Brain In-A-Box
  • Ear In-A-Box
  • Expedition Northwest In-A-Box
  • Eye In-A-Box
  • Guts In-A-Box

These curricula encourage explorations in science and health, are student centered and aligned with Oregon Content Standards. Box lessons are designed for grades 4-8 and may be adapted for older or younger students. The loan period for a Box is three weeks; this may be extended depending on availability.

Each box contains an assortment of items about science, health topics and careers including:
  • Small group activities for students
  • Hands-on, topic specific artifacts
  • Films and books
  • Lesson extensions

If possible, arrangements will be made for a local health care professional to visit the classroom during the loan period to talk with students about his/her career.

In-A-Box is sponsored by the Oregon Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU).
