MedStars is a program presented at OHSU by the Area Health Education Centers of Oregon
- The program introduces rural high school students to some of the many medical careers available.
- The 2006 session was attended by six students and one student counselor from Southwestern Oregon region
- Students came from Jackson, Josephine, Douglas and Lane Counties.

Ice Breakers And Group Projects
- Students participated in a variety of icebreakers designed to promote team spirit and friendships.
- Students were divided into working groups to develop a project to present to their parents on the last day of MedStars.
- Learning to work together as a team to accomplish a stated goal is important in healthcare as many treatments are approached from a team perspective.

Parasitology
- A graphic presentation by a noted parasitologist.
- Emphasized the importance of research in this field.
- Parasites are more prevalent than most of us realize.
- What are the dangers and how to avoid them.

Students spent three days learning valuable information.
- They met medical students from different disciplines and had the opportunity to ask questions.
- Viewed a cadaver and learned different parts of the human musculature by viewing it on a body.
- Learned alternative healing techniques - pet therapy and music therapy.
Etcetera
The students were busy the entire time they attended MedStars. The programs were interesting and informative.Students resided in a motel with student counselors and staff from each of the participating AHECs.
They had one evening out with staffers - go to a movie; shop, etc.
