The AHEC curriculum, Club M.E.D. (Medical Education Development), is a career discovery program to help students explore and plan for healthcare careers. Phoenix High School piloted the Club M.E.D. Program as part of their in-school health curriculum during two academic terms in 2005-2006. The Health Careers class was taught by Ann Thompson-Hague and the following students were part of this exceptional class:
Tara Davis: "I would like to become a part-time EMT and firefighter because I want to help others and the community."
Maribel Flores: "I plan to go to college to become a nurse. They have the power to help and save lives, and I have always wanted to help others in that way."
Jessica Garrett: "By seeing what they do and how much they help others, I plan to go to college to become a doctor and work with children."
Alyssa Jones: "I want to be part of the EMT and Fire Department...to give back to those that helped me."
Tamara Richey: "In a health career, I feel that I can help people and enjoy what I'm doing at the same time, which I think is an important aspect to look for in a career."
Andrea Stenberg: "I am interested in nursing and would ultimately like to be a Cardiovascular Technician. This year my interest in nursing has flourished, while I have been in my Health Careers class and volunteering at Asante."
