Camp M.D. 2009

Camp M.D. 2009 was held from August 3rd-7th on the Oregon Institute of Technology campus in Klamath Falls. Twenty-four students from Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties attended this pilot program. The following students from the AHEC-SW region were chosen to participate:

- Ashley Partsafas, South Medford High School

- Jazmin Saldana, North Medford High School
- Amber Sekreta, Cascade Christian High School
- Virginia Solorio, Eagle Point High School
- Chandler Tally, Phoenix High School
- Amy Walters, Grants Pass High School
Students participated in hands-on activities such as pig heart dissection, blood typing, and urinalysis with OIT faculty; clinical skills with medical and PA students on rotation at Sky Lakes Medical Center; and backboarding with an EMT. Students also received a tour of Sky Lakes Medical Center.
In addition, students attended presentations about Donate Life Northwest and EKG interpretation, learned about the nuclear medicine department at OIT, and experienced driving a golf cart with goggles that simulate one of the following eye diseases: macular degeneration, glaucoma, or cataracts. The final activity featured the students, who gave presentations to their families highlighting their favorite experiences of the week.
Camp M.D. was made possible by a grant from the Southern Oregon ESD Regional Vocational Partner Alliance. Additional support was provided by the Area Health Education Center of Southwest Oregon (AHEC-SW), and Cascades East Area Health Education Center (CEAHEC).
